Chanel Jardin de Camélias Spring 2014 Color Collection Review and Swatches!

One of the most drool-worthy Spring collections beauty bloggers all over the world have been anticipating is Chanel’s Jardin de Camélias, a group of blossom-inspired colors and textures with a slight Asiatic theme.

Of these, the 2 key pieces would be the quad (a GORGEOUS mix of smoky satiny grey and charcoal paired with soft delicate ones pink and ivory) and the highlighter, but of these 2, I decided to go with the eyeshadows and to skip the highlighter compact, so no swatches for that!

  • Illuminating Powder: It’s a nice ivory-beige with hints of pearl gold and pink, but it’s mostly very pale and more of a semi-matte subtle glow. And because it’s not the “translucent shimmer” type of highlighter, you need to be careful to blend it out well or it can look chalky. I’m also not 100% sure how good it would look on deeper skin tones, but if you’re pale it would be beautiful.
  • The nail polishes are all repromotes from the permanent collection so I didn’t bother to look at them!
  • 2 Rouge Allures (it’s not that they weren’t pretty but I’ve seen prettier in the permanent range so - let’s focus on the other things!)

  • Jardin Zen quad. The stand-out in the collection. This silky quad of soft, satiny colors feels more like Dior shadows than Chanel. Great group of colors that can easily take you from soft to smoky.
  • Sakura blush. Name says it all. It’s pink, pretty, and sweet. Like 86 Discretion (soft salmon pink), but a little more pink and with more pigmentation.
  • Illusion D’ombre 94 Rose Des Vents. Don’t get scared off by the intense rosy pink. It’s sheer, luminous and dimensional. But let me tell you its true purpose. Layer the powder shadows in the quad over it, and watch magic happen as the pink sparkles surface and blend with the powders!
  • Aqualumiere Lipglosses (all 4 shades are lovely but I controlled myself and picked the one I’d probably use the most; 89 Baie Rose, a soft candy pink creme). I admit I got this one more because I’ve never tried the Aqualumieres. Not disappointed! They have a nifty spatula-shaped brush that deposits gloss without disturbing any liner or lipstick underneath too much, and the fragrance-free gloss is strangely plush-feeling but light and non-sticky at the same time. It’s not as thin as YSL Gloss Voluptés, and it’s more balmy than Glossimers or Rouge Allure Laques.

Other items not mentioned:

1 Ligne Graphique eyeliner

P.S. This is sadly an Asia- and US-exclusive. In the US, it will only be available on in Spring (date not announced yet), not at counters.
