Natural Eyes and Ombre Lips

A very quick look featuring one of the new Dior 5 Couleur palettes (646 30 Rue Montaigne), soft shimmery peach barely-there cheeks, and a peach and fuchsia ombre lip.

I’d posted the above pic of the products on Instagram and there were requests to show the look on the face, so here it is! (I don’t always have time in the mornings to take a snap of my FOTD on camera under the right lighting - and that’s the only way the colors come out accurately on the face, but since I had time today here it is.)

The textures are quite light and glowy, so it’s mainly the glowy peach and fuchsia lips that are the focus.

All I did was apply the beige-peach gloss all over, then the fuchsia just around the center, before rolling my lips together lightly so it blends into the peach.

Products used:

Lancome Teint Miracle foundation all over face

Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer under eyes and on dark marks

Guerlain Meteorites in 03 Medium as setting powder

Shu Uemura Hard Formula 9 in Seal Brown on brows

Lancome L Base Paupieres Pro 03 to prime lids

Dior 5 Couleurs in 646 30 Rue Montaigne on eyes

Lancome Khol Hypnose 02 Brown to line upper lash line and outer corners of lower lashes

Max Factor Wild Mega Volume Mascara in Black on lashes

MAC Stereo Rose Mineralize Skin Finish on cheeks

Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Nectar all over lips

Laneige Water Drops Lip Tint in Hot Pink in center of lips for ombre stained effect

"Soft Bloom" Makeup Look

This is pretty much a face that I wear daily to work or for casual outings, with slight variations on the exact shades used.

The eye look is very soft but defined at the lashes and socket using browns. Here, I used a metallic brown pencil and very pearlescent blush, but on most days I’ll use a matte brown and a less shimmery blusher.

  • Base: Dior Nude liquid foundation 021
  • Concealer: Addiction Perfect Concealer Covering 01
  • Setting Powder: Heroine Make Mineral BB Loose Powder 01
  • Blush: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lust (you can get a similar glowing pink cheek effect by swirling your brush over all 4 shades of The Body Shop’s new Spring 2014 Shimmer Cubes 26!)
  • Brows: Shu Uemura Hard Formula 9 pencil in Seal Brown + Canmake Coloring Brow Mascara 01
  • Eyeshadows: Dior 5 Couleur palette in 754 Rosy Tan
  • Brown liner: Bourjois Effet Metallise pencil in 52
  • Black mascara: Maybelline Great Lash in Blackest Black
  • Lipstick: Rouge Dior Nude Lip Blush* in 263 Swan

A note on Lip Blush: This is a sub-range of the new Rouge Diors (remember the recent ad with Natalie Portman in a soft red 999). Unlike the other Rouge Diors, this group of nude tones are created to work like color-perfecting lip balms that add a “blush” effect on the lips so they never look too corpse-like.

"Express Luminous Makeup" for Work/School using VDL products!

I’m collaborating with Korean cosmetic brand VDL to bring you a series of easy-to-do makeup looks ranging from the everyday face (in this post) to the more trendy and colorful!

If you’ve not heard, VDL is an up-and-coming brand that’s known for fun, intense color products and great base makeup, many of which make use of special color pigments in a layering technology to refract light and perfect the skintone.

There are currently counters and outlets in South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and The Philippines. Here’s hoping they expand to more countries soon!

This is one super-quick makeup look that I wore last weekend, that looked polished and stayed put all day. The main focus is a radiant (but not shiny) complexion, clean winged eyes, soft barely-there glowing peach cheeks and low-maintenance, tinted lips.

Full-face image above was taken by the window in soft daylight without any special lights or flash, so the cheeks and lips come off a little more pink.

Products Used (plus tips and more info)

  • Primer: Lumilayer Primer (If you like things like High Beam and Strobe Cream but find them a bit too obvious, I highly recommend checking this out. It goes on under your base, and gives an ultra-fine and incredibly natural luminosity that lights up the skin without looking like you’re wearing any shimmer.)
  • Foundation: Perfecting Last Foundation SPF25 in 303 (this is medium coverage, so mix with a little Lumilayer Primer if you want less coverage!)
  • Concealer: Brightening Tone Concealer 201
  • Blush/Highlight: Festival Mineral Blusher in 602 Back Hug (soft peach and beige-gold split blush)
  • Peach shimmer shadow: Festival Shadow 602 Orangeade (wearable coppery orange)
  • Dark brown matte shadow: Festival Shadow 207 Espresso (matte chocolate brown)
  • Felt Tip Liner: Eye Bomb Mega Pen Liner (idiot-proof felt tip for those who are new to drawing flicks with liquid)
  • Black pencil liner for tightlining: Eye Bomb Auto Liner (smooth and long-wearing, so it can last quite well on the tightline)
  • Black mascara: Eye Bomb Mascara (a long-time favorite that lengthens, thickens and lifts. If you prefer waterproof formulas, try Water Bomb mascara.)
  • Sheer pinky-peach lipcolor: Triple Shot 601 Triple Peach (Favorite colored balms in the world. These come in 3 shades; pink, red, peach, but all of them go on more pink than they appear in the tube, and the milky colored strip actually helps to even out uneven lip tones better than other balm-sticks or sheer lipsticks.)

Holiday Look #3: Longwearing Soft and Glowy (feat. Benefit Groovy Kind-a Love Kit)

Not everyone’s into a smoky eye or red lips and winged liner. If you prefer the subtle enhancement of a low maintenance “girl-next-door” look that will last the night, this one’s for you!

I used a nifty little limited edition kit from Benefit, “Groovy Kind-a Love”, which includes minis of Porefessional balm, Benetint, 4 neutral brown shadows, a mini They’re Real mascara, and mini dandelion/gimme fever duo. Everything you need for an ultra-natural and flattering look.

Products: everything in the kit except for the concealer, lip liner and lipbalm.

Concealer - Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer #2

Lip liner - Givenchy Lip Pencil #3

Lipbalm - use any pot balm you have that gives a slight sheen!

Layering blush is a way to make it last the whole day, but be careful not to go overboard or you could end up with overly red cheeks. The thinnest layer of both will go a long way.

Try Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer on the lids as an eyeshadow primer!

To avoid a stain wearing away unevenly on the lips, use a thin layer of nude liner as a base first.

[Question/Request] Makeup for a Hippie-themed Party?

[Images are all sourced from Google and not mine!]

When we think of the word “hippie”, a few things come to mind:

  • Long flowing hair
  • Head-bands
  • Sun-kissed, natural skin
  • Face-painting [optional]
  • Flowers, flowers, and more flowers (they didn’t coin the term “flower-child” for nothing)
  • Bell-bottom jeans
  • Loose flowing tunics and dresses

The hippie makeup look can range anywhere from a very natural one (see the top image from Becca’s Halcyon Days campaign, with nothing more than brown shadow, and a warm tawny lip and cheek) to full-on face-painting.

I’m not demonstrating because I don’t have any face paint on hand, but it’s straightforward enough because the makeup is actually quite natural and pretty (if you skip the flower face painting).

I’d actually recommend just keeping things very pretty and simple on the face, and letting your hair and outfit do the talking for you.

Requested: Soft and Peachy Lids, Cheeks and Lips

Here’s the inspiration for the look, and while I don’t have the same kewpie-doll features or the porcelain skin of the model, this is the basic way you can recreate the look for yourself.

The key to the look is a matching coral/peach tone on the cheeks and in the crease, echoing a glossy soft coral lip.

Because this is using hazy, matte shades, I would say it’s probably going to work better on pale to medium skins. If you have dark skin, you can definitely still create the effect but you would need a much deeper taupe brown and a stronger peach/brick shadow in order for the look not to go chalky.

You will need:
