It is with great sadness (I HATE it when pinks disappoint me) that I report those lipsticks kinda failed my mark for being BOLD or MATTE.
What with all the hype I unwittingly created after buying 2 tubes, before even trying them on my lips, I had to make this post and apologize for the undeserved attention. And I’m taking the post down off FB, Instagram, Pinterest…. just so nobody is misled. I love a lot of Maybelline products, but these completely failed.
- The pigments strangely enough look very bright in low light (my pics were taken indoors without lighting overhead, using an iPhone 4S), and then almost pastel in bright light. It’s not that they aren’t pretty, but heck - something called “Hot Pink” shouldn’t look pastel in ANY light!!!
- The pigmentation is not opaque, so they don’t go on true. They look nice swatched on the hand, but on the lip, your natural color will show through and turn them duller and less pink/orange than they appeared.
- They aren’t matte. (Nuuuuuuuuu…) In trying to make the formula comfortable and lightweight, they kinda made the lipstick - dare I say - wimpy. If I want a creamy lipstick I would buy a creme. Almost immediately after applying, a bit of sheen will come out on the lip when the heat from your body emulsifies the wax content.
- The combination of low pigmentation and non-matte texture means the lipstick will quickly shift around and look patchy on your lips.
My recommendation? Stick with Wet n Wild Mega Last or NYX Matte lipsticks.
In the meantime, I highly suggest the company benchmark against other brands or at least do a study to see what women who buy matte lipsticks actually want in a matte lipstick. The marketing angle was good, but the products failed.
Alright then, the hunt goes on, my lovelies! (And I guess those of you who have access to Color Sensational Vivids are still luckier….)
